My experience of undergoing Breast Augmentation and getting implants

Many women are looking at surgical options to enhance their looks. Breast Augmentation is one of the most common surgical procedure done by women to correct their breasts. It is important that women understand the augmentation process so that there is no unrealistic expectation.

When I decided, I wanted breast augmentation, I choose my doctor depending on experience and service he provided, then depending on cost. The budget plays an important role but I strongly recommend to go by reputation of a doctor and online reviews. For those who have budgetary constraints there are various schemes available where interest is borne by the clinic. You can reach out to financing companies for more details.

During my consultation I was asked many questions and given certain instructions. Some of them were as follows:

  • He asked me about my general health condition and if was taking any medication like aspirin, ibuprofen, or drugs containing any of these things. The medicines thin the blood and is not conducive for healing.
  • I was asked to wear comfortable clothes which will be easy to remove.
  • Pre-surgical blood test had to be performed where I had to stop eating 8 hours prior to the test.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours prior to the test.
  • And if a diabetic patient the doctor should be prior informed.

During the consultation I tried out different sizes to see what size implant would look good on me. I was asked to place special dummy implants of different sizes in front the mirror to see how I would look. Though I wanted to be 1 cup size larger, after this implant trial I preferred an increase in two cup size. I now had an idea how would I look after the surgery. I did my blood test and once the doctor confirmed everything was normal, I choose the date of the surgery.

The day before the surgery, I was asked to fast from midnight. I showered in the morning and reached the hospital at 8 AM. After filling the routine admission and consent documents, I went to my room.

My surgeon visited me along with anesthetic and cleared all my doubts. I was wheeled into the OR at 9 AM. A small IV access was taken on my right hand. I was hooked on to the monitor with multiple leads. I was given anesthesia and one hour later I woke up in my room realizing that the surgery is done. There was tight dressing around my chest and I experienced tightness and heaviness which was bearable.

I dosed off again and few hours later I woke up to see the nurse administer some medication from the IV drip. I was allowed to drink water 4 hours after the surgery and by 3 PM in the afternoon I was given a light snack along with the tea. The nurse then came in and put the sports bra over the dressing. My doctor visited me at 5 in the evening and made me walk. As I had requested the doctor to discharge me by evening I was made to go home by 8 PM. I was given a discharge card along with instructions. I was asked to take leave from work for 48 hours.

Surgery is just the first step towards beautiful breasts. Following the breast enhancement surgery, the recovery period is a crucial time during which the body heals.

  • I was able to eat any food
  • I was asked only to sleep at my back
  • Doctor asked me to return to my job but physical work needs to be avoided
  • Massage my breasts
  • Take proper medications
  • Take complete rest
Special Instructions:
  • Avoid sleeping on stomach or sides for 6 weeks.
  • No intense physical activity that will give a chance to open wounds
  • Wear a sports bra for 6 weeks and take it off only while taking a bath

I reached home and took pain killers as prescribed by the doctor and slept for hours. The next morning I had breakfast and took medicines as prescribed by the doctor. I took complete rest for 2 days. I just slept and watched TV.

I could feel the pain decreasing day by day. I went to doctor for a follow up after 2 days. The doctor examined and said everything was fine and I can resume to work and normal activities. I showed to the doctor after 15 days and by then the swelling had decreased.

Now, it’s been 25 days of my surgery and would say I had a great experience having my breast augmentation done. Today my costumes look much better which gives me a self-confidence when I walk out of home.

This is one of the most satisfying procedures I have done and I am glad that I have done it.

In the end, I would like to say that it is very important to listen to your doctor and DO NOT TRY SELF TREATMENT after the procedure. Following post procedure instructions is equally important to achieve desired results.
